Patient Expresses Gratitude Following Hospital Stay

The following letter was sent to Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital Administration from an individual who had recently undergone spinal surgery.

Dear Mr. Gastineau,

On June 18, I had a spinal surgery and was admitted to Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital (TSSH). I had never heard of this hospital as one having patients, but I am so glad that I was admitted to TSSH.

First, I would like to mention the nurses and other staff that made my stay so special. I will always remember your hospital with great fondness.

Darla was so sweet to me and she went over and beyond in her care of me. Jessie kept me focused on getting better and wouldn’t allow me to feel sorry for myself (the pain was getting to me). Amelia was so delightful and she always smelled so good. Ms. Soo was so kind and encouraged me every time she was my nurse. Rachelle made me laugh so hard I had tears flowing down my cheeks. Stephanie was so sweet and her smile made me smile. Brandi was delightful. She made me feel like I was her sister. Carrie was sweet and made me smile. Nikki was nice and kind to me. Carly (pretty eyes) was an absolute joy! I was surprised to find out she was new. Caleb (PT) was very kind to me, but I spent more time with James. James was so patient with me and taught me things to do when I got home.

Dr. Clinton Baird listened to me… he really listened to me! I will always be thankful to God for Dr. Baird. He took time and listened to me. My back hurt so bad for years. No matter how I complained, Dr. Baird cared and though the healing is slower and the pain is aggravating, I am healing! The pain is manageable when I take pain medication. His assistant was so nice to me and very encouraging each morning!

Also, the cloth napkins are a nice touch! The food was delicious and the towels were soft. I was also introduced to bottled ginger ale! Ginger-ale is my favorite drink I had no clue it came bottled. Your hospital felt like a resort.

Again, Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital is the best hospital I have ever been admitted to. During the pandemic, it was hard to be without my family but the people who had a hand in doing anything with me made me feel so cared for. I had to share this with my family, especially my daughter, who is a registered nurse. She burst into tears and when I asked her why she was crying she said, “Mom, I treat all of my patients as if they are you and when you told me how you were being treated, it took a burden off my chest because I was not able to see you.”

Please share this letter because I am forever changed due to my experience with your hospital.

Love always,

Former Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital Patient
